Media Release

Cederberg Municipality

7August 2020

Cederberg has note media interviews and reports by Cllr Joseph Farmer.

As a municipality we want to categorically state the we welcome any investigation of alleged corruption levelled against councillors and senior officials.

With regards to the latest media revelation made by Cllr J Farmer against former Cllr Danville Smith, we want to state that Cllr Farmer had no mandate or rights to speak on behalf of the municipality.

Further to this we have received evidence that an internal report which is the property of the Cederberg Council, has been leaked to the media. Neither the Executive Mayor or Municipal Manager have been approached by Enca to clarify such report and the validity of this report.

As a municipality we distance ourselves from comments made by Cllr Farmer to the media in an interview.

We further want to make it clear that there is no evidence presented to the municipality by any investigators that could have any of its former or current councillors criminally charged and or prosecuted.

We want to urge the public and the media to use the correct channels of communication and anyone is free to request information on any matter that relates to the spending of taxpayer’s monies.

End

Municipal Manager

H Slimmert
