FESTIVE SEASON NOTICE: PROHIBITION ON NEW STRUCTURES IN INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS

Dear Residents

As we enter the Festive Season of 2025 and approach the New Year of 2026, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a joyous and safe holiday season. We are aware that many of you will be traveling to your destinations and returning to work in the new year. Please be advised to travel safely and responsibly.

Considering the upcoming holidays, we would like to remind all residents of the Informal Settlements within the Cederberg Municipality of the following important notice:

PROHIBITION ON NEW STRUCTURES AND EXTENSIONS

Cederberg Municipality hereby gives notice that:

NO NEW STRUCTURES AND NO EXTENSIONS TO EXISTING STRUCTURES WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

- Citrusdal:         Riverview

- Clanwilliam:     Khayelitsha

- Lamberts Bay: Compound

- Elands Bay:      New Rest

The municipality strictly forbids the erection of structures in these areas without proper authorization. Any person found to be in contravention of this notice may face prosecution.

OFFENCES AND PENALTIES

• Any person who incites or assists another person to occupy land unlawfully shall be guilty of an offence.
• Any person who receives or solicits payment for arranging or organizing the occupation of land without the written consent of the Municipal Manager or person in charge of that land shall be guilty of an offence.
• Any person who hinders or obstructs municipal officials, law enforcement, or other officials in the execution of their duties shall be guilty of an offence.

REPORTING

If you become aware of any unauthorized structures being erected, please report them to the Housing/Law Enforcement Unit immediately.
