Mayor welcomes new staff and wishes old staff well

Dear Municipal Staff and Residents of Cederberg

NEW BLOOD

Our Cederberg Municipality is currently in the process of organisational renewal.  Evidence of this is the new staff that are joining the municipality.  We were recently joined by Hilton Wilson (Manager: PMU), Jerome Booysen (CFO) and then by Elton Klaassen (Manager – Water and Wastewater.  Today we have been joined by Marianna Bester (Manager: Human Resources) and Richard Meyer (Manager: Protection Services).  We desperately need a competent management tier, and therefore I am thrilled that the Director-level is now been additionally strengthened by competent managers. 

I wish to formally welcome all these colleagues and wish them a fantastic and rewarding stay with the municipality.  We expect a lot from them and we will also give them all the support we can.  We definitely need new blood in our organisation to reinvigorate our systems and processes.

OLD BONES

Then I must inform you that our “old blood” (old bones) in the form of our MM (Gerrit Matthyse) and Director Henry Witbooi, are undergoing medical treatment for health challenges.  I also want to wish them well as they navigate their health challenges and wish them a speedy recovery and return to their post as soon as possible.

COUNCIL DECISIONS

Last week (29 October 2024) the Mayoral Committee held its monthly meeting and Council also held an Urgent Special Council meeting.  For purposes of continuity and compliance, Council confirmed the following assignments / appointments:

• ACTING MM – Council approved that Director Riaan de Ridder serve as acting MM while Gerrit Matthyse undergoes medical treatment.

• ACTING DIRECTOR CORPORATE AND COMMUNITY SERVICES – Council approved that Ms Alice Wilton serve as acting Director Henry Witbooi undergoes medical treatment. 

• WASTE MANAGEMENT OFFICER - Council approved and assigned Elton Klaassen as the Waste Management Officer to comply with the National Environment Management Waste Act, 2008 (Act 59 of 2008).

•  MPAC ADDITIONAL MEMBER – Council approved that Cllr Maxwell Heins serve on the MPAC committee in compliance with section 79A(2) of the Municipal Structures Amendment Act 117 of 1998.

• RENEWAL OF MEMBER OF AUDIT AND PERFORMANCE AUDIT COMMITTEE – Council approved the renewal of the term of office of Ms O. Sehunelo for another 3 years in compliance with Circular 65 of the MFMA.

Things are moving positively in the municipality but often too slowly.  I wish to thank everyone for their support.

Phew! Christmas is around the corner.  The year 2024 is almost over.  What has happened to the time?  So much to do and so little time.

Hang in there everyone.  And please know that I am most thankful to all of you for your support and commitment which you show to the Cederberg municipality.
